Week 10 news...

Alice - "I have this Smiggle pencil case. It has tons of things in it." It has pencils, rubbers and pens all from Smiggle. One of the pens has twelve colours on it! There is another pen that you can draw on, to rub it out you shake it. The etch-a-sketch pen used to belong to Alice's brother.

Ryan - The other day Ryan went to After School Care and met someone called Riko. Ryan got angry at Riko and fell back on his chair when Riko said "mush"! They played go go crazy battles with some g0 g0 crazy bones. Callum was also there.

Rohan - Rohan was watching tv this morning and Santa was on tv! Santa's phone number is 0800 22 22 22. Rohan rang and Santa's voicemail came on! He said he was very busy getting ready for Christmas so to leave a message after the jingle bells. Rohan said he would like two ripsticks for Christmas, a pink bike for his sister, two barrels of beer for his Dad and for his Mum to win lotto!

Lachie - "When it was my birthday I went to the movies. It was kind of sad because one of the monsters was getting really sad because Max was leaving the island." The monster realised that he had been mean and that was why no one liked him. He threw a dirt ball at one of the monsters and it broke his arm off so he had to have a stick for an arm! Lachie liked the movie, it is called Where the Wild Things Are.

Ella - On Sunday Ella's Dad was in a show. Ella went to watch with Isobel, Hugo, Jo and John. Ella's Dad was a ballerina on stage and he is in the newspaper. He had to ride a bike on stage and his knees were hitting the handle bars! He also had to chase a kitten and kept shouting "ouch". They also saw Scottie Thunderpants on stage.

Week 7 news...

Jessie - Jessie's brother gave her a book called Smelly Bertie. Jessie likes the page where a cup is thrown at Bertie by his sister. Blake has another book in the series which is called Dirty Bertie. Jessie really likes that one because the girl goes into the garden and collects worms that she pours on Bertie's head.

Matheus - Teo has brought in a piece of his big monster. He is able to change the piece into a duck. He can also make it into a worm. The monster was given to Teo by his Mum's friend who lives in Auckland. The monster has eyes that light up.

Isobel - On Sunday Isobel did a show with Ella, Brianna, Alice and Emma. Emma, Ella and Isobel did hip hop together and had to dress up as little checkered girls. The name of the song they danced to was Speed Racer. Isobel had to sing in a part of the dance routine. Some of the dancers got a bit confused and went the wrong way. Isobel showed us her awards she received for hip hop and jazz. Isobel prefers hip hop to jazz.

Aaliyah - Last Christmas Aaliyah got a little kitty that talks and plays music. Aaliyah's little sister likes to try and get the toy. Aaliyah also has another toy which is a little dog. It is covered in stickers and you can take the collar off. When it talks it says "please brush my fur".

Week 6 news...

Ryan - On Saturday Ryan watched a funny movie but he is not sure what it is called. The man sings a song and plays a trumpet. The movie was a comedy and was very funny! The movie was on Sky on a channel called Comedy Central.

Ella - Ella got to go to The Warehouse to get a toy because they had been very good. They helped their Dad clean the house.

Alice - On Wednesday Alice went to Peter Pan in Invercargill. She got a book about it. "It has lots of wacky facts in it" Alice said. When Alice went there she got an ice cream that was really tall. She also got a teddy bear that is wrapped up in a dressing gown!

Rohan - Yesterday Rohan got a new school bag. It is really cool because you think it has an ordinary side pocket it but it is actually a drink bottle holder. Rohan asked his Dad if he could have it and he said yes. Rohan also brought in his karate badge. He has a white belt to wear with his uniform but Rohan would like a black belt.

Lachie - "On Sunday I went sailing in these little yachts. I got bumped on the head by the sail. But it wasn't funny because the metal hit my head. We almost tipped over. We got towed by a big boat. After that we went to a bike track and I was faster than my Mum. At the end there was this really cool bike bowl that you dropped into on your bike. There is also a little seesaw that you can go on on your bike."

Week 2 news...

Jessie – Jessie went to Invercargill hospital yesterday because her friend was having a baby. He was three weeks early! He is tiny. Jessie didn't get back until 11 o’clock. The baby's finger was the size of a fingernail. His name might be Jackson but they are not sure yet.

Isobel - "Yesterday I went and got my brace. It is nice and comfortable." Isobel's brother keeps trying it on and she gets annoyed with him. She got the brace from the Medical Centre. Isobel isn't sure how long she has to keep the brace on for.

Aaliyah - In the holidays Aaliyah got some stickers. Aaliyah likes her fish stickers because they reflect and sparkle in the sun. Aaliyah also has a Cinderella book that you can colour in. The book has stickers in it that you can stick on the pictures and words.

Matheus - Teo's Mum bought some new shoes for Teo. They are exactly the same as his Dads, but his are newer and cleaner! Teo wants to look like his Dad so when he grows up he can be a builder too. Teo's Dad builds lots of different places.

REMEMBER - This week is bandana week at QPS. Bandanas are on sale for $4.00 and all money goes to Canteen (Teenagers with cancer).

Week 1 news...

Rohan brought in his new puppy Casper to visit Room 9!

Here is a story Rohan wrote about his puppy.

On Ratapu I got a dog. We got to call it Casper. He cost $400 dollars. That would take 800 hours of garden work. Casper is black, he likes to chew. He feels cuddly and lovely! He also plays all day. Sometimes he gets excited.




Ella - Ella went to Temuka and Timaru. When she was there she got a Littlest Pet Shop. It is a penguin. Ella was going to call it Pengo but she decided to call it Penguino!

Alice - When Alice went to Christchurch she wrote a diary. Alice went to the ballet and watched the Peter Pan show. She also went to the zoo and got a little kiwi.

Lachie - "In the holidays my Grandma came and I did lots of work. I got lots of money so I decided to buy a skateboard".

Children will have to create their own country by naming towns, rivers and writing information about what they have created. We will be looking at this website in class so children should be familiar with what they need to do. This is a free game though they may ask you to purchase a map of your country at the end (this is not mandatory).

This may be something useful for those wet days over the holidays.

Week 6 news...

Jessie - Jessie has a new Care Bear book from McDonald's. She also got another book called Angelina, Star of the Show. Pink and blue are Jessie's favourite colours.

Aaliyah - Aaliyah has a new book about a flying elephant! The character in the story is Dumbo. There are lots of different animals in the story on a broken down train.

Buddy - "On the weekend it was my Dad's birthday." Buddy drew some pictures of his Dad heli-skiing! Buddy got his Dad a game called brothers in arms. His Dad turned 44.

Isobel - Six years ago Isobel got a book from her Grandad and Grandma. It is a very special book with parts that open up. It still looks new because Isobel has kept it in a cupboard.

Teo - Teo got Eeyore the toy when he was born. He is quite old now but Teo still likes him. Teo calls Eeyore friend because he was his very first friend.

Week 5 news...

Thiago - "On the weekend I went into the shops. Then I went to the toy shop in McDonald's." Thiago got a black toy from Toy World that has a cape.

Georgette - On Saturday Marsha slept over at Georgie's house. They played a game but didn't let Johnny play! They also went motor bike riding.

Adam - Adam got some teeth pulled out! He had it done in Frankton. Adam had to have an injection to stop the bleeding.

Brianna - On August the 21st Brianna is going to Christchurch on Jetstar. They are going to visit Grant. They will go swimming at QE2 or Jelly Park.

Week 2 news...

Jessie - "I went to Cardrona to do skiing lessons" said Jessie. She brought a brochure to show where she has been skiing. Jessie went on the magic carpet. Blake didn't like it because he kept falling off.

Isobel - One day when Isobel was coming back from the store she saw Ella. Isobel asked "would you like to make a cake with us?" Ella said "yes." The cake had dark chocolate and cream.

Aaliyah - Next Monday Aaliyah's mum is going to get married and have a baby. They are going to call the baby Alice. Aaliyah is very excited. She is going to feed the baby.

Buddy - "On the weekend I went skiing on the Olympic half pipe." Someone crashed into Buddy on the ski field! The person's ski hit Buddy's goggles and broke them!

Ice Skating will start next week on every Thursday till week 8!

Week 1 news...

Brianna - Brianna's brother got braces on that are black and red. His tooth fell out and he got $4.00 for it! He got them on in Queenstown.

Adam - Adam played computer games with his brother. Adam played with his Mum and Dad. Adam enjoyed staying at home.

Georgie - Georgie had ski lessons from Monday to Friday. On the last day they got two crazy babies and two snakes each!

Thiago - Thiago stayed at his house and played on his PlayStation. Thiago also went to Arrowtown for a walk. He walked by the river and played with the rocks.

Connor - Connor went to McDonald's for breakfast. He got pancakes and a drink. Connor got a mammoth toy with it.

Week 10 news...

Ella - Ella went to the parade on Saturday. She saw Isobel and Alice there. Ella was very spoilt at the parade because she got lots of lollies thrown to her.

Ryan - Yesterday Ryan's friend Dan came over to play. Ryan also had a sleepover with his friend Jonty. They watched a movie called Borat. It was really funny!

Lachie - Lachie went to the parade on Saturday. He got a bug bag of goodies. In the bag there were some lollies, a key chain, a book and some pamphlets. Lachie's favourite character is Flash the dog.

Alice - Alice went to the fireworks show. There were some beautiful colours that Alice got to watch from her dad's shoulders. Alice saw Ella at the fireworks. Later on in the weekend Alice and Ella played on the trampoline.

Week 9 News...

Jessie - Jessie has two stained glass windows that she got for her birthday. They are very breakable. You can hang them in a window.

Isobel - "Last night I did eight dances at QPS hall. I did jazz with Ella and Alice. I did hip hop with my friend Emma. My brother did hip hop too."

Aaliyah - Tomorrow I am going to Greymouth. I am going to meet my Nanny. My Nanny and Uncle Pete are going to give me my birthday present. My Nanny really misses me. I miss her too.

Dear Parents,

Next week is book week at school. Room 9’s theme this year is pirates! We will be reading lots of pirate stories and poems as well as making lots of artwork and pirate crafts.

We will need some empty tissue boxes, if you have any spare bring them in as soon as possible. I would also like to invite any family members (including Grandparents, Aunties and Uncles) in to read to the children for 5 to 10 minutes. This would be in two different time slots either 12.20-12.30 or 2.50–3.00. Please let me know beforehand with a note from your child if you are coming in the following day so we don’t have too many here. I will respond and let you know if it suits.

On Friday we have the whole school book parade. Remember that your child needs to come to school dressed as a book character. It is great if they have the book the character came from, but not mandatory.

We are all looking forward to a very enjoyable week!

Week 8 news...

Thiago - Tomorrow Thiago is going camping in Arrowtown. He is going to camp because his Mum is not at work. Thiago thinks camping is fun! They might have toasted marshmallows.

Georgie - Two days ago Johnny was sick because he couldn't breathe. Georgie's Nanny came to pick her up. Johhny got taken outside because the cold air helped him to breathe. Georgie knew Johnny was better the next day when she saw him eating all the marshmallows!

Adam - Adam played with his friends. There was a cake that was square, brown and had cream in it! Adam had lots of fun at the party because he played with his brother and friends. It was his Dad's birthday.

Brianna - Brianna got a new Animal Allsorts book! Brianna's favourite picture is one of a butterfly. You add water to the pictures to colour them in. Brianna knows one picture is of Autumn because the leaves are falling from the trees.

Connor - Connor has a credit card holder for his snazzy business cards. It has Connor's name on it. It is metal and you can see your reflection. Connor has spare cards in case he runs out.

Week 7 news...

Chamonix - Chamonix made beds for her Littlest Pet Shop toys. She used containers and tissues. She likes playing with them.

Marsha - Marsha went fishing at Kelvin Heights. Her brother caught a huge fish! She ate the fish for dinner. She enjoyed it.

Alex - Alex's dad went to Auckland last week. He's coming back today and we're going skiing.

Oscar - Oscar's mum joined the Queenstown Library. He got some cool books and movies from there. He was super happy she joined.

Week 4 news...

Adam - Adam has a toy truck. Adam has got lots of friends in Room 9. He likes to play cars in the playground. Adam also has a brightly coloured truck.

Connor - Connor got a new computer game. You can see the different levels on the back. One of the hardest levels has snow. The game is called Medal of Honor. Connor plays it every night.

Thiago - Thiago got a new toy from a shop on Sunday. It is a Ben Ten toy! You can see Ben inside the alien's chest. The alien has four arms and his name is Four Arms.

Brianna - Brianna is going to Christchurch to live, she is not sure when though. Brianna's brother Grant already lives up there because he goes to Medbury School. Brianna is excited about moving to Christchurch.

Week 3 news...

Karen - Karen went into Queenstown with her Mum. She had two pieces of fruit. Karen went into town for a big walk.

Marsha - Marsha got a decoration from her Mum's friend. Marsha had six decorations but she gave some away!

Chamonix - On Sunday Chamonix gave her Mum a puppy. It said World's Best Mum on it. It is a teddy bear, cuddly toy. It is a white puppy.

Alex - Alex got a Lonestar rugby ball. He also got a trophy. Alex got the ball when he registered for rugby. He got the trophy last year for most improved player.

Oscar - Oscar got a new toy with a jet pack. It can freeze people. Sometimes when Oscar goes too fast with the jet pack he crashes into the wall. It came from the Warehouse.

Week 1 news...

Jessie - At Easter Jessie got an easter bunny teddy. Her brother didn't know she had it. Jessie's mum and dad hid it in the garden for her, her brother got a pink bunny.

Isobel - Isobel has a friend who can make a doll out of a paper towel. Her friend is Lisa. Isobel didn't have a go at making one. It is shiny in the dark.

Aaliyah - Aaliyah won a prize in the holidays. Her dad won it for her. Aaliyah likes the prize, it is a big fat cat. She named it Sarah and she named the toy from her mum, Jessie.

Teo - Teo is going to Brazil for ten weeks. He takes a little pill to help him sleep on the plane. Teo loves travelling on a plane. Teo misses his family especially his grandma. In Brazil he will play soccer and go to the horse racing.

Week 9 News...

Karen - Karen went to a show. She won a big prize and a chocolate cake! It was a magic show with some dancing.

Ryan - On Saturday Ryan is going to his friend's party. They are going swimming and then having lunch at Winnies. At the end of the day they will go home for some birthday cake.

Ella - Yesterday Ella's Dad came home. He brought Ella and her sister some special animals. Ella's Dad had been in town at Kylie's shop.

Rohan - On Rohan's holiday he went to a castle. He showed us some postcard pictures of the castle. Before they went to the castle they went to the Royal Armouries. "It showed you all the weapons that were used in World War 1 and World War 2" Rohan explained.

Lachie - Lachie had a delicious dessert. It had strawberries and chocolate in it. When Lachie and Benny served it Lachie's Dad pretended to eat it all!

Week 8 news...

Thiago - "Tomorrow I'm going to Raha's House". Thiago is also going to a shop with his Mum and Dad. He likes going to the supermarket to buy food.

Georgie - Last night Georgie lost a tooth. The Tooth Fairy gave her $5.00. Georgie's brother said he would try and steal her money, but he was just joking!

Alex - Alex made a photo book at home. It is of Stuart Island. Alex's brother ran into a tree! Alex saw two types of endangered birds while he was there. He also went on an underwater submarine.

Brianna - "I've got a jungle gym for littlest pet shop." Brianna has got 3 cats, a kangaroo and a bird. Some of them are fluffy.

Week 7 news...

Matheus - On Saturday Matheus went to a show. His favourite bit was when the man lay on a bed of nails. His other favourite bit was when another man ate food off the ground.

Aaliyah - At Christmas Aaliyah got an MP3. She got it from her Nana and her Pop. It has got heaps of songs on it. Aaliyah really likes the Jordan Sparks song Tattoo.

Isobel - "I went to the golf yesterday, it was fun". My Dad bought some chocolate and it melted! Isobel didn't play any golf. She bought in her pass to show us.

Jessie - "I got these ponies from my Mum. There is a blue one, white one and a purple one". Jessie's brother plays with them as well. They also have carriages.

Week 6 news...

Oscar - "I had my birthday party yesterday and I got a lot of toys." Oscar got an Indiana Jones forest cutter that cost one hundred million dollars. Oscar's cake was made of goody goody gum drop ice cream

Alex - Alex got a new Dragstar from the Warehouse. They went to Toy World too. The car crashes a lot!

Marsha - Marsha's Grandma came yesterday and she might stay for another night. They might play golf. Marsha's Grandma has won a trophy playing golf.

Chamonix - Chamonix has got a Littlest Pet Shop toy, it is a cat. Charmonix likes it because it is soft and furry. She got it from Santa when she was 6.

Week 5 news...

Alice - On Outdoor Education Week Alice found a dragonfly. She found it on the beach. It was dead in the water. "The wings are very breakable" Alice explained.

Ella - In the holidays it was Ella's birthday! In the morning Ella got presents. Her sister gave her a spider and she named it Ruby. Isobel gave her some poms poms and a VIP Duck.

Lachie - "Half of my tooth is hanging" Lachie said. It got caught on some string when Lachie was washing his face. It happened in the morning before school.

Week 3 news...

Mairen - In the weekend Mairen went camping. She saw a wee rabbit and she caught it. They called the rabbit Isabelle. They also got some ice cream for dessert.

Brianna - I've got two dogs and one cat. When we go home the dogs go all psycho and jump on us. The dogs are called Bonny and Amy.

Connor - "I got a green ball from my mum. I also got a fake credit card. The credit card is so you can get money from your bank account" explained Connor.

Aaliyah - "I've got a buddy and she has a wee black kitten. My buddy has got kids. The kitten is cute and super scratchy. My buddy's name is Jillian."

Week 1 news

Aaliyah - "I got an MP3 player for Christmas". Aaliyah's whole family got ipods. Aaliyah's Grandma and Grandpa gave her the Mp3. It is red.

Jessie - Jessie got a cat from Dunedin. She had to go to the hospital because she had a burst ear drum. She went to sleep for the operation, and got an ice block when she woke up.

Teo - "I went camping for three days". Dad said we would get two desserts but we only got one! We had an ice cream for dessert.

Isobel - Isobel went camping for two days. Her bike got run over, but they don't know who did it. Isobel slept in a tent with her family.

Dear Parents

My name is Sarah Blackford, and I am teaching in Room 9 for all of 2009. I grew up in Queenstown and went away to study at Canterbury then Otago, and I am very happy to be back in Queenstown! We have a busy start to the year with Outdoor Education Week which is a highlight for the children. Room 9 will also be having a free swimming session on Thursday the 12th of February so please remember to pack the children’s swim gear.

I look forward to meeting you and getting to know the twenty new members of Room 9. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to pop in to have a quick chat or to make an appointment.

Scholastic and Lucky Book pamphlets will be coming home next week. Orders will only go through if paid by cheque or credit card.

Library day is Monday.

P.E. is on a Wednesday.
