Week 11 news...

Jack - Jack got an award for most improved player in soccer. There is another Jack on Jack’s team. Cameron is also on Jack’s team. Soccer has finished for the year, but now they are playing footsaul (inside soccer)!

Jakob D – Jakob got a special pen from his mum. The pen is new and has six different colours. Jakob also brought in a magazine. It has an article about Jimmy Cowan. It has lots of pictures of Jimmy in it.

Jessie – Jessie brought in some blocks of chocolate for her netball coaches. Her netball coaches are called Haley and Jane. Jessie likes to smell the chocolate through the wrapping. It makes her hungry. Jessie has to hide the chocolate so Miss Blackford doesn’t eat it for morning tea!!

Troy – Troy’s Dad caught a trout. It is the first trout he has caught. His Dad brought it home to eat for dinner. They had it with a bun and it was delicious! The trout was a brown colour and was really big.

Damien – Damien went to the bowling centre. He went with his buddy, Lou Al and Lou Al’s buddy. Lou Al won! Damien had some hot chips. Damien is really good at bowling and can knock down all the pins.

Week 10 - Sea News...

Riley - When Riley went to Australia he got a toy shark. He saw one that was white and one that was black. His favourite was the black one because it had big teeth! Riley’s favourite show was the dolphin show. The dolphin made a big splash and wet some of the audience.

Millie – Millie brought in a book to show us. The book has special flaps you can open to find the creatures hiding behind. Millie also has a Magic School Bus book that is about sharks. It is full of facts like… “Sharks can hear a sound from miles away. They can smell a tiny drop of blood and even hear a fish’s heart beating.”

Mikaela – Mikaela brought in lots of toy fish! They are different colours, but look similar. We think they are Regal Blue Tang fish like Dory from Finding Nemo. Mikaela also has a starfish that her Mum made when she was younger. Mikaela’s Grandma made her a small, yellow and purple fish cushion as well!

Charlotte – Charlotte brought in a book called The Choosing Day. The mother dresses up in a wedding dress. The little girl dresses up in some dress ups. Charlotte is going to dress up like the girl in the story for our book parade. She is not sure where she got the book from but it is one of her favourite books.

Cameron – On Saturday Cameron went to the All Blacks versus Wales game. He got an All Blacks flag and book while he was there. The book tells you all about the All Blacks and Welsh teams. Cameron showed us the page with all the All Black players and their jersey numbers.

Week 9 news...

Jessie – Jessie won a prize, it is a lip gloss and sunscreen. Jessie also has a My Little Pony. The My Little Pony has a magnet on its foot so it can stick to the board. Jessie has two other ponies at home.

Erin – Erin has brought in two Scottish stuffed toys. One is a man in a kilt and the other is the Loch Ness Monster. They both have plaid on because that is what Scottish people wear. The Loch Ness Monster also has bagpipes and plays a tune.

Dawson – Dawson’s Dad bought him a paper plane book. Dawson has made two fast planes, a slow one and a super fast one! Inside the book there are pieces of paper with designs on them to make the paper planes with!

Beckham – “Last Saturday I went to Milford Sound with my Uncle. On the way my Uncle took funny photos of me, there is one with a fish. There was a lot of snow on the way. I saw a waterfall with a rainbow!”

Paige – Paige made a cookbook at after school care. Paige’s favourite recipe is the ice cream one! The book is filled with dinner and dessert ideas! The recipes are from different magazines.

Jacob S – “Last Saturday I had a sleep over at my cousin’s house. We played on the X box. He has a secret password to get all the cars in the game. He let me play but I kept crashing! Sometimes I would crash into other cars and sometimes into walls!”

BOOK WEEK

Week 10 starting 21st of June is Book Week.
Room 9's theme is sea creatures.
I would like the children's news for this week to have something to do with sea creatures or the sea. This could be facts, books, a movie they've watched or a trip they have taken to the sea.

Week 7 news...

Jack - Jack brought in a wooden horse. It is called a Dala Häst. It is very important to the country of Sweden. Just like the kiwi is important to New Zealand. Jack got it for Christmas from his Uncle Siga.

Troy – Troy made a mask at home. It is a lizard mask. He drew some eyes, teeth and triangles on it. He painted it green at the end.

Jessie – Jessie brought in a toy she got from going on the plane. She named it Poppy. Poppy is wearing an orange cap. Jessie’s baby sister also got one. Jessie also brought in a Hello Kitty toy that her Mum’s friend brought back from China. They both clip onto Jessie’s bag.

Damien – “I’ve got this car. It is Lou Al’s car and I found it outside” said Damien. The car has a bit of green and it’s a hot wheel car. It can change colour from orange to green. You have to put it in water to make it change colour.

The Greatest Feat

Room 9 are participating in The Greatest Feat to support the All Whites (New Zealand's soccer team). Make sure you wear your pedometers all day and bring them to school. As we add our steps on the computer, we travel around South Africa visiting different places and collecting All White players.

Week 6 news...

Cameron - On Sunday Cameron got his team soccer photo. Jack is in the same team. They have three coaches. Cameron is in the front row. Jack in our class is by Simon in the back row. There are four people in Cameron’s team from this school.

Mikaela – Mikaela has got a new sticker book. Mikaela showed us her favourite page. She used her pink sticker to catch Jakob. One of the stickers is missing and Mikaela doesn’t know where it is.

Charlotte – Charlotte brought in some information about tree carvings in the Chatham Islands. Charlotte wanted to share this news as it is important to the people who carved them. The carvings were made by the Morori people.

Riley – On Wednesday Riley is going to Invercargill to see his Mum’s friend. She has just had a baby. The baby is a girl but Riley is unsure of her name. Riley is travelling down with his sister, his Mum and his Dad.

Millie – Millie’s Mum went to Pumpkin Patch and bought some socks, tights, a skirt and Millie’s brother got some new pants. He needs them because he slides on the ground and gets holes in them. Millie is wearing her new purple socks today with owls on them. Millie’s room has a leak so she has to sleep in the guest room. It is an adventure for Millie!

Week 5 news...

Niki - “Yesterday it was my Dad’s birthday and we went to the Gondola again. After that we bought a cake because it was my Dad’s birthday. I ate it after my dinner and my dinner was curry.” Niki’s Dad turned 55 years old.

Harry – Harry has a new book that he got from his Nana. It is called Our Earth. It tells you all about volcanoes, earth layers, earthquakes and mining for diamonds. The book has 32 pages in it. It has an index and contents page so it is easy to find the pages that you want quickly.

Jared – Jared got some new gogo’s from The Warehouse. His favourite ones are yellow and red. Jared has so many sparkly gogo’s he doesn’t even know how many he has! All together he has 22 sparkly and none sparkly gogo’s. The orange gogo is a good one because he can go far.

Bailey - In the holidays Bailey got through all the levels in the shooting game. He is up to level 11. The blow bomb was the strongest weapon. It is a game that you play on the computer. Bailey really likes playing on it.

WOW – you all remembered heaps!!!!! Pip is going to be so proud, I can’t wait to tell her. I had such a great time visiting you and learning about breathing and where oxygen goes in the body.

Week 4 news...

Beckham – Beckham brought in a book he got from Whitcoulls. The title of the story is The Cat in the Hat. The book has lots of numbered doors that you have to open. Some have rhyming words behind them others have colours and letters of the alphabet. Beckham read part of the story to us. We really enjoyed his new book.

Erin – Erin is going to Riverton after school. She is going to stay at Julie’s house. They are going to get some jellybeans, m&ms and a dvd movie. Erin is going with her Dad and Cisco.

Dawson – Dawson brought in a book that shows you how to draw dogs. It also has a drawing pad that you use. Dawson showed us some of the dogs he has drawn. They are amazing! He got it for his 6th birthday. Dawson’s favourite one is the surfer dog.

Paige – On the 24th of May Paige’s cousin is coming to visit. She is coming to visit because she has a plane ticket to use. Her name is Lisa and she is 21 years old. Lisa is from Auckland where she lives with her Grandma. Paige is very excited about her coming.

Jacob S – Jacob’s Mum brought him a globe of the world. It also comes with an atlas. Jacob can find New Zealand and Queenstown in the atlas. Jacob can also find Korea, this is where his Mum was born. Jacob is really interested in where countries are around the world.

Week 3 news...

Troy – Troy and his family went to the museum. When they were there they found a pretend man on the table who was drunk. He had drunk too much beer! Troy’s brother took a photo with him.

Jack – Jack has another new Dangerous Book for Boys. Jack showed us some of the war pictures in the book. There are pictures of war boats and planes. Jack also showed us a stamp that was made in the 1840s. The book has 330 pages!

Jakob D – Jakob went hunting with his Dad. They were hunting for deer, hawk and rabbits. He had lots of fun! They cooked the deer for dinner but Jakob accidentally burnt it!

Jessie – “My sister’s birthday was on the 4th of May.” Jessie’s sister got a Littlest Pet Shop. She also got slippers that you can decorate. They have flowers and butterflies on them. There are wee buttons that you add the decorations to.

Damien – Damien has a new drink bottle because he lost his other one. He lost it at the Event Centre. Damien likes his new drink bottle. It is actually his mums.

Week 2 news...

Cameron and his mum made a map of the world. Cameron showed us Stewart Island on the map. His dad has just been there fishing. He caught twenty fish! They were all blue cod but Cameron’s dad had to put the small ones back.

Millie’s grandma is coming for a visit. Then they will all travel to Australia in a big plane. Millie and her family are going for her aunty and uncle’s wedding. Millie likes to talk to her grandma on skype. Millie’s grandma is from England.

Riley is going to soccer on Friday and Saturday. Riley has to travel quite far to play soccer. Last Friday Riley got two goals! Riley’s team always wins! Riley is number 1.

On Sunday Charlotte went over to Wanaka. They went to have lunch but had to wait for an hour! So they went into Wanaka town to have lunch at the pub. Charlotte had mini hotdogs and chips. Yum!

Mikaela got a panda bear from China. Her granddad got it for her. There was a boy and girl panda bear. You can take the panda bear’s jacket off. You can’t really see its eyes because they are dark. Mikaela got it when she was four.

Week 2.1 news

Jared went to Leeston. By the time he got home it was 6 o’clock and was quite late. Jared got to watch tv in his Mum’s room. Leeston is quite far away but it is in New Zealand.

In the Easter holidays the Easter Bunny gave Niki a present. It was sitting on her desk and she found it first. She was reading some books to her Mum and it was in her pencil case with the lid off.

“In the Easter holidays somebody came over to my house to have a sleep over.
It was my sister’s friend but I can’t remember her name. She was five years old. She stayed for the Autumn Festival. When it had finished she had a sleep over and went home on Sunday” said Harry.

Bailey made a vehicle without instructions. It is an Indiana Jones vehicle. It is on level four where the bad vehicle chases the good vehicle. Bailey plays the Indiana Jones game on the computer. The lights on the vehicle can move up and down.

Week 8 news...

Jakob has got lots of rugby cards. Some are worth more points than others. Jakob’s favourite player card is Victor Vito from the Wellington Hurricanes. Jakob has 17 cards.

On Monday Jack made lots of go go crazy bones. He made a puppy dog, a boxing one, a pig, shiny mush, a bird, a ninja, a shiny guy and a ghost.

Troy has got a lego helicopter at home. The top propeller can spin around. The blade on the back can spin too. Troy’s mum bought it for him.

Nicky Tall from the office fell off her bike and broke her arm. She was at the dump when she fell over. Jessie has made Nicky a get well card and Jessie’s mum made her dinner last night!

Damien has a helicopter. Lou Al got it from his buddy. Damien loves helicopters! It is made out of lego and has a propeller on the top. Damien made it with some help from his mum. They used the instructions.

Week 7 news...

Bailey – Bailey has a game on the computer where he has to drive a train. You have to drive really fast and use the arrow keys to turn.

Jared – Jared is going to go swimming at Alpine Aqualand. Jared is having swimming lessons and after that will go in the play pool. It is a busy Monday afternoon for Jared and his family.

Niki – On Saturday Niki went to her dad’s work for a bbq. Before that they were shooting at a plastic plate. Niki went to the bbq because her mum was at work.

Emmy – Emmy went to Mikaela’s party on the weekend. Her cake was big and had green icing on it! It was a double cake. There was lots of food there like strawberries, sausages and bread.

Week 5 news...

Dawson brought in a book he is reading at home. He is reading the last book, which is number seven. Dawson’s Nana bought it for him. She bought it from Queenstown.

Jacob – There is only five days until Jacob’s birthday. He is going to Auckland to visit his Aunty and Uncle. Jacob’s Mum went away to Invercargill to do some work. That just left Jacob, Liam and his Dad at home. Jacob’s Mum works for Westpac.

Beckham got a toy from Thailand. It is a Ben Ten watch that has a light. Beckham’s Uncle bought it for him. When you turn it different colours come out. It can also glow in the dark. Beckham’s Uncle has to help him put it on.


Paige – “My Dad works at Nzone and he skydives there.” Paige showed us a picture of him skydiving with the Cookie Monster, a Teacher from the High School and Paige’s brother. He is a tandem master! I wonder if Miss Blackford jumped with Paige’s Dad?

Erin – At Burger King Cisco’s diaper fell of. It fell off and flew across the room. Erin thought it looked like a rocket ship. It was a dirty diaper. Oops!

Week 4 news...

Jake - Jake has a boat that comes with a trailer. A police van pulls it. Jake got it from Toy World. He got it a long time ago.

Jessie – Jessie got a notepad from her mum. You can rip the paper off or you can clip it on through the holes. Jessie is going to keep all her work so she can see it when she is older.

Damien – Damien has got a transformer. It has trucks on it. It does not transform into a truck. Damien got it from Burger King with his dinner.

Jack – Jack got a new pet dog and she is only one year old. Her name is Meg. He also has a cat called Possum Blossom that bit him yesterday! Jack likes to play games with his cat and dog.

Troy – Troy has moved to Queenstown from Whangarei. Troy has moved with his brother Jake, his sister Kate, his mum Liz and his dad Lawrence. Troy and his family are staying at a friend’s house at the moment. The family moved to Queenstown because Troy’s mum really likes it.

Week 3 News

Mikaela – Mikaela has a My Little Pony. The pony can talk and blink her eyes. Mikaela got it for her birthday.

Millie – “This is a small possum that my Grandma got for me”. Sometimes Millie sleeps with it because it is so cuddly. Sam didn’t get one.


Riley – Riley is going to Australia for his birthday. Riley gets to pick two theme parks to go to. He wants to go to Movie World and Sea World.

Cameron – “I went to Australia and I went to the Crocoseum”. Cameron got a book from the hotel full of pictures of animals, Bindi and Diago. Cameron went to Noosa and Brisbane.


Charlotte – Charlotte got a mouse from her Aunty Michelle. Charlotte painted her eyelashes blue! She sleeps with the mouse at night because it is very cuddly.
